Yoz Labs Mint Pages

Two experimental NFT mints on the Ethereum chain.

Context
While at Upperstudy, I was assigned to work with Yoz Labs. Yoz Labs is an experimental NFT company and was in the process of ideating on NFT projects to release to test new mint technology at the time. I helped ideate and design two projects while with Yoz Labs. The first project was a charity NFT collection, working closely with established traditional artists to raise money for women reproductive rights. The second a themed profile picture NFT collection in anticipation of NFT.NYC.
Art of Choice
The first NFT project was called Art of Choice. Other than to raise charity, it was also used as a test for their NFT mint backend technology. I designed the website with the information hosted on that site, the web application mint page and branding. This project would be the building block for the next project we were working on at the same time. The outcome was the project raised around 18 ETH and 114 NFTs sold.
NFT mint page is a web application where users can purchase or “mint” an NFT with their cryptocurrency.

Everything's Coo
The second NFT project was called Everything’s Coo (ETC). This was a themed profile picture collection of pigeons. ETC would be using Yoz Lab’s new constant rate auction backend, which would make the mint price dynamic based on variables of the live mint. By using what we had with the Art of Choice mint page design with styling changes, we would be cutting engineering time. The challenge now was how to convey the constant rate auction mechanisms without confusing the user.

Many directions were explored into how we could best convey the constant rate auction to the user. One direction was to include a price history graph. Ultimately this direction we chose created the least amount of confusion; Letting the user decide whether or not they want to understand the mint process or intuitively figure it out themselves.

Outcome
The project successfully launched on the first day of NFT.NYC 2022 with the team in-person at NYC. It was extremely fun to see this pushed live and watch our users interact with our project. Yoz Labs also got to see its constant rate auction technology and its user interaction. Users at a few points of the mint process actually decided it was worth it to pay, even though the mint base price was free. Eventually the project would mint out over 2 weeks. The ETC NFTs are now available to purchase second hand on Opensea and ETH NFT marketplace.
Reflection
I ultimately learned that a big part of NFTs was the experiences attached to them. The “minting” of NFTs was an important experience because its the user’s first experience with their NFT. This pushed me as a designer in ways never before since NFTs are such a new and unique product. Thinking how to make such a new process easier for users to get their NFT or how can we make this experience fun and unique. I learned how to channel emotion into a interface and work on unorthodox website layouts focused on art. Super lucky to work with such an interesting team and product, reshaping what I understood as a designer.
